Source4 provides ongoing LAN and WAN services to this healthcare organization. This environment consists of a headquarters location and 18 remote sites connected by Cisco routing/switching products. We have built a large network enterprise around NT Terminal Server and Citrix Metaframe across frame-relay, which also supports AS/400 traffic. We have integrated Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, Internet Access, Dial-in/out, and a Cisco PIX firewall for security. We are currently building a GB backbone structure for increased speed and throughput.
Source4 completed a consulting engagement on the feasibility of migrating from Citrix Winframe 1.7 to Microsoft NT Terminal Server and Citrix Metaframe. This environment consisted of 16 file servers and over 600 nodes. The testing criterion was based on using existing servers with all current applications. Source4 has presented the results of this performance evaluation, and is preparing the implementation plan.
The requirement of this project was to print bar code labels from a Unix application without programming changes, and to do on-demand printing from six different PC workstations on the network. Source4 provided a solution which combined Loftware for Windows and TracerX. We wrote the script in TracerX (an integration tool from Tracer Research), which retrieves (scrapes) a control number from the host screen and sends it to Loftware for printing on an Intermec 7422 printer. All this is transparent to the terminal operator who simply presses a predefined "hot" key to print a label. Pressing multiple "hot" keys produce multiple labels if needed. The key entry operator sees only familiar screens, in a user friendly environment. Virginia based industrial textile manufacturer Drake Extrusion faced customer service requirements that could potentially affect their future sales growth. Rather than apply a labor intensive band-aid to the compliance labeling issue, Drake elected to use the proactive path of enhancing their information tracking system and meeting customer requirements through better internal management. Source4 was the partner selected to provide the data collection network and print solution for Drake Extrusion. The data collection system runs on a Windows NT platform. The application is developed in PowerNet AirLinc software from Connect and utilizes a Microsoft SQL database. An interface has been written to manage the file transfer between Drake's AS/400 host, managed by the IT group in the United Kingdom and the SQL database. PowerNet AirLinc is a powerful middleware product that controls wireless terminals, printer commands and even serial devices. As part of the labeling requirement, the weight must be collected on finished products, added to the database record, and printed on the product. To collect the weight, the RS232 scale interface has been attached to the ethernet backbone using a RocketPort Serial Hub from Comtrol. By using the RocketPort Serial Hubs for scales and ethernet attached Sato Thermal Transfer printers, Dominion Solutions was able to create the network infrastructure without adding personal computers for serial and parallel communications, thus saving Drake significant expense. The RF network uses Intermec's 802.11b compliant 2.4 GHz equipment.
